HPB Surgery
What is Hepato-pancreato-biliary(HPB) surgery/surgeon?
HPB surgery is a highly specialised area of general surgery which deals with conditions of the Liver, Pancreas or Gallbladder (and related ducts). As such it could have been called LPG surgery, but as with most things in medicine is over-complicated, so it sounds clever.
HPB surgeons treat a range of cancerous and non-cancerous conditions as described in this website. HPB cancers are often aggressive and require prompt management to achieve the best outcomes. Due to their complexity, these conditions are treated by several different specialists, as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT).
